Functional Nutritionist Singapore: What to expect on your first consult

Updated: Dec 16, 2021

From finding the right nutritionist, what you can expect and how often should your follow-ups be.

Finding the One (Nutritionist)

Besides credentials, as cliche as it sounds, look for a team who cares. Also, consider why you're reaching out - this will help you get the most out of your session and help you dive into some of the reasons behind your desire to make a change. During your consults, you and your nutritionist will set specific goals (and plans for achieving them).

With the enormous amount of cluttered information at our fingertips, it's easy to get overwhelmed even before your health journey begins. Building up that trust with your nutritionist is important.

Besides going through your health history, these are some of the conversations you should be having with your functional nutritionist during your first consult:

  • When was the first time you had the symptom?

  • How do you handle stress and anxiety?

  • Are you tough on yourself?

  • We're you exposed to antibiotics at a young age?

  • What was your childhood like?

Tip: Find a nutritionist who addresses the underlying emotional context of your health conditions. A deep understanding of your health history, triggers, and lifestyle are critical in personalising your health journey. Understanding your root cause helps unlock your ability to heal.

Taking time to talk about your health history, lifestyle, and symptoms provides a complete view and a path forward. We help you make connections between the events in your life and the current state of your health. At the end of your first consult, you will also receive a foundational food plan.

Holistic Approach to Health and Wellness

When we talk about integrative wellness, we talk about our different body systems, and the intelligence of the body to balance itself. At The Nutrition Clinic, you have access to:

  1. Functional Testing (Advanced biomarker tests)

  2. Functional Nutritionist

  3. Functional Behaviour Coach

  4. Symptom Tracking (We use data to track your symptoms & make recommendations to support you as you heal)

Under the guided membership programme, we build up a solid foundation of nutrition and lifestyle habits before we set up targeted interventions based on your test results - whether it be a liver optimisation protocol, gut detox protocol, or both.

Functional Testing and Analysis

Comprehensive labs and specialty testing let us go deeper to provide a better understanding of you and your health. At The Nutrition Clinic, our 3 core assessments are the Food sensitivity test, Nutritional deficiency, and Gut microbiome test, as well as the Body Stress Impact test. These tests can be done at home. We mail the test kits to you, you provide a sample, and a pick-up at your house to our partner lab will be arranged.

Once test results are in, our functional nutritionist will then review the test results with you in detail so that you’re armed with in-depth knowledge about your own health.

Some of the data we use include how well your liver is able to detox, your energy production, how well you store and burn fat, your ability to break down cholesterol, caffeine sensitivity, food intolerances, and chronic illness risk profile. A key indicator of the Body Stress Impact test analyzes your HPA-Axis and how well you respond to stress.

When you combine science backed nutrition, positive psychology and lifestyle medicine, and preserve space for human connection, long-lasting meaningful change happens.
