What to buy organic: the 2019 list
The environmental working group has just launched the 2019 dirty dozen (fruit and veg with the most pesticide residue) and clean 15 (fruit and veg with the least pesticide residue)
Dirty dozen- buy these organic where possible:
- Strawberries
- Spinach
- Kale
- Nectarines
- Apples
- Grapes
- Peaches
- Cherries
- Pears
- Tomatoes
- Celery
- Potatoes
Clean fifteen- these generally have less pesticides:
- Avocados
- Sweet corn
- Pineapples
- Frozen sweet peas
- Onions
- Papayas
- Eggplants
- Asparagus
- Kiwis
- Cabbages
- Cauliflower
- Cantaloupes
- Broccoli
- Mushrooms
- Honeydew melons
This list does test produce in America, but as we do get a lot of produce from the USA so it is worth keeping note. For produce we buy that is not organic we tend to soak it in a solution of apple cider vinegar and salt and rinse in cold water. Whilst this does not remove all the pesticide it does help remove the outer layer.
