Curcumin is the active compound in turmeric, and a lot of the studies done on curcumin are around 1gram a day- it would be almost impossible to get this amount from eating turmeric.
Curcumin is also poorly absorbed into the bloodstream, its bio- availability is increased by adding black pepper, which contains piperine as well as consuming it with a fat as it is fat soluble.
Therapeutically curcumin may be given as a supplement but for those who don’t require that level of curcumin, turmeric is a wonderful anti-oxidant to add to your diet daily.
We would suggest adding a thumb size or teaspoon to one of your meals. You can easily add turmeric to smoothies (go easy it is earthy tasting), turmeric chai tea, curries and roasted vegetables as well as dips and dressings.
