Just last week, a journalist asked me to comment on the carrot salad craze on Tik Tok! Over 8M people -- mostly women -- were drawn to the promise that having carrot salad daily helps with estrogen dominance -- a hormonal imbalance that can cause mood issues, weight gain, irregular periods and fertility issues. This kind of linear thinking that distils the complex (the body, hormones, how food interacts with our biochemistry) into the super simple (a carrot salad a day keeps hormonal problems away) is so seductive.
I remember feeling the same way 15 years ago while dealing with infertility. I read that black soy helps so I went all out having a soy drink daily! That drink truly was hope in a glass. But, it was only when I started unpacking the many layers of issues that were causing not just an absence of ovulation, but also IBS and massive hair fall, that things started to shift.
I understand the appeal of a wanting to believe in the magic pill.
I created The Nutrition Clinic to take what is complex and make sense of it, to be that detective to help untangle whats causing symptoms that make no sense -- and to create a plan that is practical, structured and achievable.I truly believe what works for one, doesn’t necessarily work for another- we have to take the time to understand YOUR body, YOUR lifestyle and YOUR behaviours first to forge a path that makes sense for YOU!
I felt lost many years ago (while religiously sipping my soy drink) trying to forge my own path- which is why I am passionate about giving you the care you need, not rushing you through appointments or following cookie-cutter protocols that don't even scratch the surface.
